"Birds of a Feather" 10 Things We Witnessed

Since I'm wrapping up my week of Southern Charm in Savannah, GA (currently sitting in an airport) I thought I'd take this time to review this week's episode. Obviously since I was on vacation, I couldn't post this earlier but here is a condensed version with the 10 things we witnessed.
Here we go.

10. TRav co-signed Kathryn Calhoun Dennis's lease after she became so distraught at the polo party fiasco that she ended up in the hospital.

9. Cameron has a bad case of the runs and Shep suggests her food at the dinner party may have been to blame. I mean, I say some gross things to my friends but that conversation was another level.

8. Craig and Landon get lunch hour pedicures...I'm just going to leave that there.

7. Jennifer Snowden calls everyone in her contacts list to let them know that Kathryn Calhoun Dennis was in the hospital and she's quick to say that Thomas WAS NOT there.

6. Landon believes that Kathryn Calhoun Dennis is crying wolf about all her issues and is just playing a damsel in distress act.

5. Mother throws her Flamingo party and Cooper takes a moment to try and make sure things are cool between them. He's wondering if she has a problem with him because of his new friendship with KCD. Mother dismisses this as easily as Michael makes her martinis.

4. Everyone hissing and ganging up on Jennifer Snowden for daring to come to the party when Kathryn Calhoun Dennis isn't invited. Why should this pot stirrer come when KCD can't? Sidenote: Trav blames Jennifer for KCD's manipulation of people...

3. Trav yelling...YELLING at Jennifer for telling Craig that he didn't come to the hospital to visit Kathryn Calhoun Dennis. Jennifer says Craig misunderstood and she only said he didn't stay long. I'm sorry, Trav needs to get out of her face.

2. Jennifer immediately calling KCD to tell her about the incident with Trav.

1. Whitney trying to get Jennifer kicked out of the party by asking Mother to tell her to leave.

That's my condensed version of this week's events. I gotta say, Landon was getting some serious hatred on Twitter for her moment in the car about Kathryn. Her rant does come off as sort of insensitive because she said things like "People go to the hospital all the time" but at the same time, I gotta agree with her. Its one thing for KCD to turn up in the hospital but its another thing for everyone to get a phone call about it and be encouraged to reach out to her. That's something that should just be between her and Trav and close friends. The fact that Craig got the phone call about it like they should just rush over is annoying.

I also want to note that while spending a week in Savannah, I can totally see why these people are in their own little world. Its GORGEOUS down in the deep south. I think I'd be a little snobby and uppity if that's where I come from, too. haha. Stay tuned for my vacation guide of my Savannah trip in the next couple of days.

That's all for now!

"What I Read" for April 2016

My husband and I love to read. We both feel antsy when we don't have a good book that we're into. Almost like not knowing what to do with your hands. We started chatting at the end of last year about how many books we think we read a year, and we weren't sure. So at the beginning of this year, we both started to keep a tally and I've read 12 so far this year, which isn't bad!

April was a tough month for me, though, with books. There was one book that I've been dying to read for years, another was a book club pick, and the other was a random book sale find that ended up being SO boring (I couldn't wait for it to end). For the past couple of months, I feel like I was on a steady stream of books that sucked me in right away. I'm not sure if its the weather change and wanting to be outside more or what, but I hope it comes back! There's no better feeling than not being able to put down a good book.

So here are the books I read this month. I'll give you a synopsis of each and a rating of 1 out of 5 and a brief sentence or two with my thoughts.
Here we go!

Title: Mommie Dearest
Author: Christina Crawford
Rating: 5 of 5

Synopsis: This is a famous book by Christina Crawford, daughter of movie icon Joan Crawford. It was the first "tell all" book ever published by a celebrity child and tells the tale of Christina's relationship with her mother from her adoption to Joan's death. In the book, Christina tells the tale of being a victim of child abuse during her mother's battle with alcoholism and that she felt her mother was more concerned with being an actress than the mother of four children, suggesting she may have adopted them for publicity. She also mentions Joan's long list of affairs with men.

Thoughts: I loved this book. Christina wrote this as an adult but you can almost hear her voice as a child, than a teenager, into adulthood. Very well written. I would recommend reading this if you're a fan of memoirs, I wouldn't recommend it to a sensitive reader (which I can be sometimes!) because she does describe a lot of abuse.

Title: The Light Between Oceans
Author: M.L. Stedman
Rating: 3.5 of 5

Synopsis: We meet Tom Sherbourne who returns to Australia after 4 years on the western front. He takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, an isolated island that's a half day's journey from the coast and where the supply boat only comes once a season. Tom brings his young and bold wife, Isabel, and after years of two miscarriages and one stillbirth, a boat gets washed up on the island shore carrying a dead man and a living baby. Tom, who has had rigorous military training and keeps meticulous records, wants to report the incident immediately. However, his grieving wife insists the baby is a "gift from God" and they claim the baby as their own. The story unfolds as Tom and Isabel reap the consequences of their choice and battle between right and wrong.

Thoughts: I enjoyed this book, its easy to read and has a good story flow to it. Really well written with a lot of character development and character parallels in the story that are easy to spot. There is a lot about family dynamics, loves, and losses. I would recommend this book for anyone who likes a good amount of twists and turns.

Title: Seven Sunny Days
Author: Chris Manby
Rating: 1 of 5

Synopsis: Rachel Buckley is getting married and her two best friends have organized a "hen week" (bachelorette week for us non-brits) at a sunny resort in Turkey. It should be the perfect send off to single life but each woman is carrying her emotional baggage along with her bikini. Add in unlimited cocktails, friendly strangers, and some sunstroke and the seven days end up putting the firmest friendships to the test.

Thoughts: I HATED this book, I really did. I'd recommend it to ... no one. I'd recommend it to no one. The whole story is sort of pointless. It has some funny parts and a decent ending but the characters aren't that interesting and nothing really happens until the last 20 pages.

Title: The Secret of the Old Clock (Nancy Drew Mysteries)
Author: Carolyn Keene
Rating: 3.5 of 5

Synopsis: Nancy Drew solves her first mystery when the accidental rescue of a little girl who lives with her two great-aunts leads an adventurous search for a missing will!

Thoughts: You should definitely read a Nancy Drew story at some point in your life. They're so great and easy to read (I finished it in like 3 days). I'd recommend this book to anyone who wants to read something easy and fun or to anyone out there who has a little bookworm who likes getting into a series!

That's it for April. I doubt I'll finish a book by the end of the month but I've already started a new one and I'll just include it with the May books. I purchase most of my books at thriftbooks.com . I love telling people about this website because they have SUCH reasonable prices and free shipping on a purchase of $10 or more. I mean, come on that's ridiculous! If you go through books like I do, its definitely a good place to visit.

On Deck for May:

The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd
The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson

Stay tuned!

Southern Charm: Hold Your Horses

The episode starts out like it normally does, we see everyone starting their day. Craig is getting ready for his new job. He's dressed in a nice suit and wants to get into the office before JD so he can make a good impression. What he doesn't seem too pleased about is JD mentioning that sometimes he has to get his hands dirty. As JD puts it "put on some jeans and knock down a wall." I still don't get what this company is..I thought it was a hospitality group? Why are we knocking down walls? I can't tell if that was a metaphor.

Cameron goes over to see Shep and they drink beers. They talk about Shep dusting off his old real estate license to work together? This is news to me that he held a job at some point although I wouldn't be surprised if he just had the license and never used it. The one thing bugging me in this scene is that HE GIVES HER A BUSCH LIGHT! Come on, Shep! You're like 38, you should not have Busch in your fridge past the age of 25, I'm sorry. Life is too short to drink cheap booze, and he can afford it.

On the other end of drinking, we see TRav pouring himself a bourbon and coke using Knob Creek. I'm sorry - that's the good shit, you don't mix that! Does anyone else agree with me? You don't need to be drinking Busch beer but you don't mix Knob Creek with coke! But I guess he can afford it...touche.

TRav gets a phone call from Kathryn Calhoun Dennis about a house she wants to buy. She just happens to be in the neighborhood so she stops by to show him and get his stamp of approval. Also, she needs a co signer. He tells her this is the time to build her own credit. THANKS DAD! What a bullshit comment. So Kathryn Calhoun Dennis turns on the water works and tells him that she needs his help because she doesn't want her kids to realize he has a better house than she does. No, seriously guys...that's what she says. He invites her and Kensie to come by the plantation to watch him play polo.

Mother is planning her flamingo party. Its a boring scene and you don't even want to hear the story that inspired the flamingo party. The only relevance here is that Kathryn Calhoun Dennis isn't invited, since I'm sure this will come up again. I think Mother is cool and everything but I don't know why she's a staple on the show. I'm convinced its only because Lady Gaga tweeted in the first season that she loved her.

Shep meets up with Danni and Cameron and they tease him about his dating rituals. Cameron also says "yolo" and lost some points in my book.  I need to sidenote here: Does anyone else love Danni? I don't know why she's not a main character on the show. Shes always hanging out and shes SO cute. I'm curious about her story! The only thing we really know is from season 1 that she dated Shep. Hello, Andy!?

We see Landon out hitting some golf balls with her dad. She said she's been playing her whole life but she looks like me out there...and I've played like twice in 32 years.

So now Landon tells her dad she wants to open up a bourbon bar downtown but members only because everyone downtown are just dumb young kids who drink Busch beer or mix good bourbon with coke. But in the meantime shes working on an online magazine...okay. Dad seems unimpressed.

He tells her to pick one idea. She asks him for investment money. He says no...and tells her God takes care of kids and fools. Mmmmkay.

HOLD THE PHONE! Craig wants to take Cameron to go RING shopping for Naomi, his new girlfriend! No, no. He says he wants to do the mature thing and take the next step. I'm shocked! Wait...okay...so once I stopped glaring at the jeweler with the stupid magnifying goggles on his freaking head, I hear Craig say this is a pre-engagement ring. A promise ring?? Are those still things? And he's spending $3,000 on it. Whatever. Cameron thinks since Naomi is out of his league he wants to lock her down fast. Good support there, Cam.

I could've done without the scene of seeing TRav shave with his shirt off. Thanks, Bravo.
He goes to visit Mother and kisses some serious ass to try and get her to invite Kathryn Calhoun Dennis to the flamingo party. She drinks her gin martini and doesn't budge.

Now we're finally at the polo match and TRav is excited to see Kensie.

Fake friend Jennifer Snowden pulls up in a Maserati...I'm not kidding...and they load all of Kensie's stuff into her car instead of taking the car that probably already had her stuff in it.
So Kathryn Calhoun Dennis is saying that shes excited to have a family day with TRav...but then why is Jennifer there?

JD and Elizabeth are at the polo match and excited to see Kensie, their goddaughter. But Kathryn Calhoun Dennis thinks they don't have her back. She thinks they took TRav's side. Which is stupid.

They pull up and Kathryn Calhoun Dennis flips the fuck out because JD and Elizabeth are there. She says again that its suppose to be a family day, but again, why is Jennifer there then? I really don't know why shes so upset. Even if she isn't friends with JD and Elizabeth anymore, are they not still Kensie's godparents? She's such a bitch.

Jennifer grabs a quick glass of wine and pretends she doesn't know what's wrong with KCD even though she just heard her bitch for the 2 hour drive. KCD packs up Kensie and takes her home...saying that if TRav wants to play checkers, than she'll play chess. Whatever that means.

Okay, I actually felt bad for TRav for the first time ever because he says "Where's my baby" meaning Kensie. Ouch... :(
He makes a point of saying he's now not going to co-sign for the house and I don't blame him.

So that's our episode for this week. I can never tell if KCD is really crazy or if shes just acting for the show. Thoughts? I think she's crazy. I think this season is going to be all about these two and I'm just not into it.

Next week I'll be in Savannah, GA (having my own Southern Charm experience!) so I haven't decided if I'll skip a post for next week or just post it really late.

Stay tuned for next time, though!
xoxo

Real Housewives of Potomac Recap

Did you watch the Real Housewives of Potomac? What did you think? A lot of people didn't like it but I did! I think I was just ready for some new people, once you get into 8 seasons of some of these shows they tend to keep harping on the same old drama. I can't deny the fact that I was excited to see another cast of black women AND FINALLY some biracial women. Another bonus for me was the fact that they are in Maryland which is just a hop skip and a jump from Pennsylvania where I am. Ladies, we're neighbors! Let's get a drink sometime, I'll meet you at Bethany Beach!

Since we wrapped up the reunions last night, here are my final thoughts of this debut season.

Ratings of the Ladies

Gizelle Bryant - B
I really liked Gizelle. She's beautiful and obviously educated and has a great relationship with her girls. I thought she was a bit over the top at times (hello, freak out about sleeping in a single bed when she's a guest at Ashley's beach house) but overall she was fun to watch and I always wanted to hear what she had to say.

Ashley Darby - A
I. Love. Ashley! Besides being adorable in personality and in looks, she was not afraid of these women when they tried to correct her like a child. She stood her ground and spoke her mind even if they weren't hearing it. I love her relationship with her husband and her mother.

Robyn Dixon - A
I loved her! I thought she was actually really genuine! She seems like someone I would really be friends with in real life. She was never too stuck up about anything, just laughed when she had to sleep in a twin bed at Ashley's beach house and just kind of went with the flow. But she always stood up for herself when she needed to. I really loved her unique relationship with her ex-husband, it was odd but it was definitely real.

Karen Huger -D
She calls herself the "Grande Dame of Potomac" and her husband "The Black Bill Gates"...enough said.

Charrisse Jackson Jordan - C+
I didn't mind her. I think she was actually going through a lot personally when she filmed the season so I'll let her slide on being reserved and kind of boring. But she lost points when she used the word "ghetto" so callously (I HATE that word as an adjective) and yeah, she was just kind of... there.

Katie Rost - D
She lost me pretty much right away in the season. She would harp on everything and I don't know if shes like this in real life or if she just wanted it to be her storyline or something. But between the endless talking about getting engaged, being a "ball and gala" girl, and her tiff with Gizelle and Robyn about them being biracial (theyre not) she was just too much and not in a fun way. Quote: "You don't end up looking like this if you're straight out of Africa". Girl, shut up.

What I liked:
  • These ladies are all strong women and there was no shortage of brain cells or opinions with this group.
  • Fresh drama, like I said, I always get tired of the same old rehash of drama from previous seasons, so it was nice to have new personalities to play off of each other and to annoy each other too.
  • Ashley Darby rockin' a natural curly girl 'fro. Get it, girl.
  • Real moments between women who care about each other, like when Charrisse was sharing her current status and relationship with her husband and Robin was speaking about her financial issues. I really could feel like they all cared about each other.
  • Gizelle's one liners "Typically hoes do that" "Wherever I sit is the baddest place in the building"
What I didn't like:
  • The constant talk about etiquette. Omg, shut UP. This is something I hated with the one and only season of Real Housewives of DC. Is this is DC area thing? I've never heard people talk about where you should sit and when you should speak in my life. Its overkill.
  • Karen referring to her husband as "The Black Bill Gates" over and over. Stop trying to make "fetch" happen, its not going to happen.
  • The constant talk about race. Why does this always become a topic on these shows with black women (hello, Atlanta)? It really doesn't make any sense to me. Talkin' about, "what are you?" and "what box are your girls going to check" "you look this" and "you don't look that". Its like, shut up. They all said at various times that there is a small group of black people in Potomac, so why are they throwing race around at each other? When I'm sure race has been thrown their way a couple hundred times in their lives. It just drives me nuts.
  • Using phrases like "THOT" as if we're in our 20s. It just sounds stupid and like you're trying too hard.
  • The fact that only two of the women are actually wives...(3 if you count Charrisse, which I don't because she refuses to file for divorce for some reason)

Overall, I really liked this season. I liked getting to know a whole new cast and some fresh new drama and in a different location. This cast just got picked up for a season 2 so I guess the DC area curse is gone!

Have you started watching Dallas yet? I haven't, I'll probably binge it at some point.

XOXO

Easiest Meatball Recipe Ever!

I've dubbed myself a "wannabe foodie" because I love food and I love trying new recipes and different types of food. But let's face it, I'm not the best cook. My sisters are both amazing cooks. Megan went to culinary school and can just whip ingredients together that I've never even heard of and Yana makes the BEST homemade sauces, ever. They're so good.

That's just not me.

But I can follow a recipe! I have a handful of food blogs that I follow so that I switch up my dinner meals every now and again and also to try and cook a little healthier. I'll be sharing them with you from time to time -- especially the yummy and easy ones.

Okay, so here's a recipe that I've tweaked over the years to make it simple and easy. I mean, come on, who doesn't love meatballs?
What you'll need:

1 pound of ground turkey
(you can obviously use beef but I prefer turkey to keep it on the healthy side)
1/4 cup of milk
1 egg
2 garlic cloves -minced
1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup of breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon of parsley
1 jar of sauce
salt and pepper
1 large mixing bowl

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Then get back to your ingredients and just throw them all together (using the measurements, of course) in a large mixing bowl. One super easy trick my sister, Yana, taught me for mincing garlic is to use a cheese grater! Watch out for your fingers but its so much easier than trying to chop the garlic up super fine OR biting into a big chunk of garlic, I hate that!

I would take this time (before your hands get messy) to grab a cookie sheet and line it with parchment paper. This is what your meatballs will sit on while they bake. If you don't have parchment paper, no biggie, just use some cooking spray so they don't stick. Parchment just makes for an easy clean up.

Once all your ingredients are assembled start mixing. The best way to do this is to just get right in there with your hands. I know its yucky but you're gonna have to do it anyway when you form the meatballs. Then start forming them and placing on the cookie sheet. It usually makes about 12 two-inch balls. Bake for 15 mins.

You'll then need a deep saute pan and your sauce.

Once your meatballs are done baking, you'll place them in the saute pan. They usually have little rings of fat around their bottoms from sitting on the baking sheet, I always scrape this off so it doesn't come off in the sauce. Add the meatballs to the pan and then just cover them with sauce.

On medium - high heat, bring to a rapid simmer (covered or you'll have sauce spots everywhere) for 20 mins.

Then viola! You're done. Easy right? I don't usually eat these with anything other than a salad or some garlic bread. I just sprinkle on some cheese and extra parsley and enjoy. You can easily make some pasta to go along with them though. Or meatball sandwiches! Yum.

The best part is that you only used two dishes and some measuring cups and spoons. Easy clean up for the win!

XOXO

More Honey Than Any Honeybee

Okay, there is one thing you need to know about me...
I'm a Bravoholic.

It's true! I can't help it, ever since the Real Housewives of New York started years ago, I've been hooked. And now I love every show on there from Real Housewives of Atlanta, New York, Potomac, and of course OC. That love quickly grew into Vanderpump Rules, Southern Charm, and I'm sure there are other shows I'm not thinking of right now.

My all time favorite way to waste my time is to watch Southern Charm. I know, its sooooo vapid but I love it. You can't look away from a train wreck. Look, I'm admitting I have a problem here, try and have a little compassion. Anyways, Southern Charm has just started again for another season (last week) so I thought it would be fun to review each of the episodes with my comments after each airing! I always make so many random comments to myself so why not write them down this time. The show airs on Monday nights but by the time I watch them its usually Tuesday, so I'll have the review posted by Wednesdays. I think this sounds like a realistic time line.

So let's get right to it and catch up on the characters from last season, since we're already two episodes into this season.

Craig: He is still trust fund-less but moves back to Charleston from Delaware to live with his new girlfriend who actually seems normal. They're living in her parent's house (of course) rent/mortgage free until they sell the house. He throws a welcome home party for... himself. Mmmkay. He seems to actually have a cute relationship with this new girlfriend and isn't as smarmy as he was last season. However, he still has yet to take the bar exam and is working with JD for his hospitality company, whatever that is. So I guess he's like a partner, though, since he writes a check for $15,000 but is then working the rest off? I'm confused here.. He makes a short lived effort to ask people why they're freezing out Kathryn but it just gets brushed over.

Shep: He is living off his trust fund and hatin on Craig for being in his 20's and attractive to women, which puts him in direct competition. He still wakes up everyday at 2 p.m.and I guess he still owns that bar? They never mention it so I'm not sure. He finally sort of apologized to Craig for how he treated him last season. He also stops by to see Landon's new house when she is making some paintings to decorate. Can these two just get together please? <3 He has the nerve to call her flighty since she's into art and does her pop up shows around town. Oh, yeah okay, now Landon is flighty? Stop judging your friends, Shep. He muses that she must be allergic to work...he can relate, of course.

Cameron: She's still married to Jason and doing the real estate thing. She also puts in her snarky comments about Craig but to his face congratulates him on getting it together. Her husband (who we never see because he actually doesn't want to be on reality TV) is ready for a baby and even though she has yet to have her clock ticking, she wants to show him she can be a good wifey. So she gathers her reality show friends (no other friends are in attendance) and plays hostess for the night by throwing a dinner party. She pulls out all of her wedding gifts that she's never opened..like a saucepan. Okay, so I get that shes not a domestic goddess, few of us are. But I don't understand how she's never used a saucepan. I mean, even Kraft macaroni gets heated up in a saucepan! The kicker of this whole fake dinner party is the fact that her husband isn't even there! I thought it was for him? Ugh. Let's move on...

Whitney: He has been living at his home in L.A. and comes home for taping of the show, I suppose. I don't know if he stays with "mother" when he's back. He's still friends with T-Rav but things are a little shakey. I get the feeling you can't be FULLY friends with T-Rav for long or you'd lose brain cells. He never mentions his Austrian model/actress/reality show celeb girlfriend but someone asks him about engagement at the fake dinner party and he chokes on his words saying he's "working towards something." Mother would like grand kids soon, yeah, soon is right - isn't Whitney in his 40s?

Kathryn Calhoun Dennis: I'll be referring to her as her full name since its just as obnoxious as she is. She's pregnant again with T-Rav's baby, they already have a daughter. She thinks everyone hates her (no, its just me) and they're taking Thomas's side. She also thinks there's something going on with Thomas and Landon and freaks out about him changing the nursery in his new house from pink to periwinkle and makes a reference to the fact that Landon's dress was periwinkle. Oh giiiirrrrllll...calm down. She hangs around with fake friends like Jennifer Snowden because she nods her head and agrees with everything just to be on a reality show. Did Jennifer's face change or is my HD busted? Anyways, she complains to Jennifer about everyone taking Thomas's side and being cold to her at the party. Also, I guess she struggles with being able to move out of her parents house since Thomas isn't supporting her. In case you don't know, Kathryn Calhoun Dennis is from "old Charleston money" and the parents house (which she referred to as "ghetto" because the a/c unit didn't work) is actually a large old brick plantation home on sprawling fields. She also complains about not being invited to parties which she thinks people just don't know the real her. I think people know the real her and that's why shes not invited.

Thomas Ravenel (T-Rav): Bought a new house and is supposedly not with Kathryn Calhoun Dennis anymore however he still has a baby on the way. We see him with a terrible shiner which he says someone punched him at "the club" the night before. Okay, you're 50 stop..just stop. From Thomas we learn that he actually gives Kathryn Calhoun Dennis $2500 a month for child support out of the goodness of his own heart! There's a boring scene with him having dinner with Whitney and Mother where he speaks French and comes off really drunk or high. He's also not invited to the fake dinner party. *yawn* I'm bored with him.

Landon: She is my favorite! She has had some success with the pop up shops and is no longer living on the boat although I think it suited her. She stops by T-Rav's new place to give some design advice and confesses she doesn't know why Kathryn Calhoun Dennis hates her. She makes a couple hundred references to Shep knowing every girl in town and it makes her uncomfortable when they are her friends since she knows he always gets the girl. Again, can these two just get together? She plays it off as just awkward cause they're friends but it seems like its because she might have feelings for him? Maybe! We shall see.

Okay, so that's my recap for now!

Don't worry, I didn't miss the fact that Kathryn callously used the word "ghetto" about a plantation home which made generations and generations of money so that she doesn't have to work and never see a real ghetto in her life. You see where I'm going with this...Look, I hate hate hate when people use the word ghetto. I hate it even more coming from the mouth of stuck up brats from old southern money. But I'm just going to take a deep breath and move on, Bravo is not about political correctness and being a Bravoholic means looking over things of this nature.

Next week, I'll have more of a play by play on what happens each episode. But since I was already behind, I thought I'd just lump them together this time around.

And if you actually read that whole thing, I love ya for it.

I Am Who I Am...

This is awkward.
I honestly gotta say that I started this blog up about a year ago hoping to recharge my love of writing things down but I never got to it. But here I am...feeling antsy and aimless...and starting to give it another shot.

I want to have a blog that is 100% me. "A Myla Minute" (get it, like a mile a minute? Which is sometimes how my brain functions. Even right now I have about 10 tabs open). I'm Myla and what I first aimed to do was write just what was going on in my head or my life, my random obsessions, whatever! So that's what I'll do.

But first, let me tell you a little about me.

I was born Myla Harty in Middletown, PA to two amazing people named Terri and Billy who couldn't be more different. I have 6
siblings, but two sisters that I grew up with in our household, including a twin named Megan. Yes, I said I have 6 siblings who are all children of my father and I honestly don't think you would believe the whole story if I told you. We can dive into that later, can't we? Yes.
My father died when I was 14 years old and I'm now 32 and only beginning to recognize the layers of myself that were shaped by losing a parent at such a young age (again, another story for another time).

I've always loved to write ever since I was a kid. My favorite assignments were anything that had to do with writing a story and sharing it with the class. I decided to go to college for journalism and that is exactly what I did! I've always loved writing creatively and I MISS it, hence the blog.

I met my husband when I was 20 years old while I was interning at a local newspaper in Hershey, he was (and still is!) working as a photographer at another local newspaper in town. A journalist marrying a photographer? How cliche, but that is exactly what we are not. We dated for awhile ( I had some shit to sort out and so did he) we moved in together after 4 years of dating and got hitched at 7 years. We just celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary this past February. We have 1 dog, 1 cat and a whole lot of love, laughter, dreams, and ambitions. Neither of us aims to have any children, we love being Aunt Myla and Uncle Nate, and the parents to fur babies which is enough for us!

I have some of the most amazing friends a girl could ask for. Some I have know for 25 years and others I have known for 4 years, but they are all so different in their own ways which makes my heart so full. I'm constantly learning from their different upbringings, lifestyles, and ways of looking at the world. I don't know what I would do without them sometimes.

Anyways, there's a lot about me that you'll get to know. Thinking that I will actually open up enough to tell you things about me!

You can be prepared to read posts about food, running, WINE, friends, family, my animals, TV shows I'm obsessed with, movies I've watched, books I'm reading, where I'm traveling,  the whole gamut. So I hope you enjoy. And if this ends up just being me writing to myself, well then, what else is new?

xoxo
